5. Additional Color Selection Guidelines
Choosing the right color
-
Natural-looking shades: Choose a shade close to your natural hair color or one to two levels lighter or darker.
-
More dimension: Highlighted, blended and streaked colors can create depth and movement.
-
Natural roots: Shaded and rooted styles provide a softer transition from the scalp.
-
Grey coverage: Compare the amount of grey, the underlying brown or blonde base, and the placement of lighter strands.
-
Color matching: When replacing an existing wig, check the manufacturer, style and full color code rather than relying on the color name alone.
Understanding color numbers across brands
Numbers such as #1B, #2, #4, #6, #8, #27, #30, #33, #44, #51, #56 and #60 are commonly encountered in wig color systems.
However, the same code may appear somewhat different across manufacturers. For example, #51 is not guaranteed to contain the same grey percentage or base shade in every brand.
What the swatches can and cannot show
The uploaded color chart is useful for identifying the relationship between dark, medium, light, red and grey shades. However, the photograph's lighting, printing, age, and camera settings can affect the appearance of the swatches.
The actual hair fiber, texture, cap construction and lighting conditions can also change how a color looks when worn.
